the college girls guide to: dealing with bad grades

 Welcome back!

Midterm season is upon us and that means exams, projects and papers galore. Sometimes these exams don’t go the way we want, so today I’m going to give you some tips on how to deal with a bad grade.

Recognize why the test didn’t go the way you wanted

🧡 Did you study enough?

🩷 Did you take your time on the test and read through everything carefully

🧡 Did you set aside enough time to properly prepare?

🩷 Think through how you prepared and try to pinpoint the problem

Make a plan for the next exam

🧡 Once you’ve found the problem, when studying for the next exam fix those issues to better prepare yourself

🩷 Maybe you need to change the way you study

🧡 Or maybe you just need to set aside more time to study and work through problems

Remember that it’s just a grade

🩷 Try not to beat yourself up over one little grade because in the grand scheme of things it doesn’t matter

🧡 You probably don’t remember bad grades you made in high school, so in a few years you won’t remember one bad grade you got on an exam

🩷 One bad grade isn’t going to keep you from graduating or getting your dream job

🧡 You are not defined by your grades so don’t let them have total control over your life

🩷 Remember that it’s ok to be upset about it for a little while, but you have to get past that grade to move on to better things

Don’t be afraid to ask for help

🧡 Go to your professors and ask questions about what you don’t understand

🩷 Ask them to go over any concepts you may have missed on the exam

🧡 Don’t be afraid to ask if there’s anything you can do to improve your grade. They may not give you extra credit, but they may offer advice for how to study or give you extra practice to help you feel more prepared for the next exam

Reward yourself for the things you do well on

🩷 If you worked really hard on a project and got a good grade, treat yourself (whether that be candy, a coffee, a shopping trip) celebrate the things you succeed at, this will keep you from getting to caught up on bad grades

I hope midterms went well and you can learn from bad grades and use them to motivate you!

Till next time,

           Belle 💗
